The Luiz Gonzaga Hydroelectric Power Plant, formerly known as Itaparica, is located on the São Francisco River, between Pernambuco and Bahia. Inaugurated in 1988, it has an installed capacity of 1,479 MW, supplying electricity to the Northeast region of Brazil. The plant also created the Itaparica Reservoir, which supports irrigation projects and local fishing activities. Named after the famous Brazilian musician Luiz Gonzaga, the plant plays a key role in renewable energy production and regional development.
